13th Coronavirus Case Confirmed in the US

Recently, federal health officials have identified a new case of the Novel Coronavirus in the US. They have confirmed that the total number of coronavirus-infected patients has become 13 in the United States.

According to the reports by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this newly identified case was an evacuee from Wuhan, the place where this novel Coronavirus infection was identified for the first time.

This Coronavirus-infected patient was quarantined by the federal health authorities of San Diego. But the health authorities allowed him to leave the facility at the University of California San Diego due to a mix-up of test results.

The CDC’s Principal Deputy Director, Dr. Anne Schuchat has also given her statement on this issue. According to her, the results of this newly identified (positive) case were found to be negative because of the mix up of the results. However, she did not tell about how this mix-up occurred. She added that another test was performed to know if that individual had still any symptoms or not.

The UC San Diego Health Report

The report by the University of California (UC) San Diego Health briefly states that last week, CDC identified the test results of four patients as negative. After this, they were discharged from the isolation units back to the quarantine area at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

In their report, the UC San Deigo Health also mentioned that these four patients underwent further testing. In contrast to the previous results, the results of further testing revealed that one of these patients was positive for this novel Coronavirus infection.

On receiving this latest report, the patient was sent back to the hospital and was kept in the isolation unit for further observation. Dr. Schuchat said that the contact of the patient to others has been limited while he is undergoing further assessments.

An unrevealed number of Americans have already evacuated China. These individuals are kept in quarantines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. Schuchat suggested that the authorities should immediately remove patients from quarantines if they are identified as positive with Coronavirus. Also, the authorities are expected to keep these infected patients in isolation units and take necessary steps. This is particularly necessary to keep the disease-free individuals safe from the Coronavirus.

According to a recent report, the UC San Deigo has admitted another patient from the quarantine site. He is undergoing testing and evaluation. And he will stay in the hospital until the CDC confirms his test results.

The CDC Strategies Regarding Coronavirus Detection

The suspected patients are being tested for Coronavirus with the PCR test. The CDC has already developed the test kit named “CDC 2019-nCoV (RT)-PCR Diagnostic Panel” to identify Coronavirus affected people.

This virus, officially named as COVID-19, has resulted in the death of more than 1100 patients, affecting almost 45,171 people in 24 different countries involving China, Japan, Korea, Philippines, France, Thailand, India, the U.K., Canada, Germany, Australia, Malaysia, and the U.S.
