Chinese Army Took Over the Hospital Built for Patients Infected with Novel Coronavirus

This Monday, February 3, 2020, the Chinese army took over the hospital in Wuhan that was particularly built to hospitalize and provide care to the patients who got infected with the new type of Coronavirus. Since this Coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan’s wild animal market, 361 individuals have been killed because of this infection.

The increasing number of patients getting infected with this virus has severely burdened medical facilities. This newly built Huoshenshan (Fire God Mountain) Hospital has the capacity to admit 1,000 patients.

China has built this hospital in a record period of 10 days to meet the increased demand for health care facilities. Today, the Huoshenshan Hospital has started admitting the patients who got infected with this newly discovered form of Coronavirus.

Up till now, there isn’t any cure available for this disease. Xinhua news agency stated 1400 of the medical professionals at People’s Liberation Army (PLA), have been appointed at this newly built hospital.

Among these medical professionals, many had actively participated to fight against the SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in the past. During 2002 and 2003, this outbreak has resulted in the death of nearly 650 people in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Besides the provision of the medical staff at this hospital, the Chinese army is also working to ensure that the residents of Wuhan receive the basic supplies needed. Approximately, 200 tons of these essential supplies were provided to the Wuhan supermarkets using 50 Chinese military trucks. Nearly 130 trucks and 260 army officers have been allotted to serve this purpose.

Wuhan is a city with a population of almost 11 million. The people there have complained that they have to wait for hours in a line before they could see a physician.
