Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) of United States of America Dr.Anthony Fauci said in front of the Senate that he won’t be surprised if the daily coronavirus cases in the US increase to 100,000 per day.
According to him not enough citizens of the US are wearing masks or following social distancing claiming that situation in the US is not in control right now.
On Tuesday the government confirmed more than 48000 coronavirus cases in the US, the most since the pandemic. The cases rose above 40000 for four times in the last five days.
According to Dr. Fauci, around 50% of all cases are coming from only four states. Those four states are California, Arizona, Texas, and Florida.

In California, the government announced more than 7800 confirmed, with 6800 in Texas and 4600 in Arizona. These are daily records for these respective states.
This surge in cases is occurring particularly in western and southern states. This rise in cases forced at least 16 states to either reverse or pause their reopening. Some of them had already reopened their states a month ago.
The 16 states include California, Iowa, Louisiana, Nevada, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, South Carolina, Florida, and Arkansas.
The number of cases in California is getting out of hand. Governors of New Jersey, Connecticut, and New York have told the travelers of those 16 countries to quarantine for 14 days. This order affects around 48 percent of all residents of the United States of America.
Some states which were showing improvements now are also seeing a new surge in cases. This surge is causing the governors to rethink about getting people back to work.
At the start of June, the number of coronavirus cases was dropping in Kansas. Detroit and Wisconsin were also showing improvements.
People regarded The Midwestern United States, known as Midwest, as a national bright spot. However, it is now also seeing a rise in covid19 cases. Most states in the region are showing an increase in numbers. Minnesota and Illinois, where the number of cases was mostly low, have also developed hot spots.
While most of the country was under lockdown in April, the White House gave out guidelines to help in the reopening of businesses and some sections of the society and to avoid a resurgence of the virus. The guidance mentioned some suggestions like increasing hospital capacity and increasing testing and contact tracing.
However, it was not an obligation to follow those guidelines. The first and most determined states to reopen have seen their cases turn into an outbreak. However, according to Dr. Fauci, it was not all states’ fault. People are not taking public health precautions seriously. They are ignoring mask-wearing and social distancing.
Even the states in which mayors and governors followed all the recommendations given in the guidance by the White House, people can be seen not avoiding crowds, not paying enough attention to social distancing and not wearing masks in public.
Dr. Fauci has recommended the Government of the US to issue free masks to the public to solve this mask-wearing issue. Because without masks this surge will only increase.
