Thailand Claims to Find a Treatment for Coronavirus

Thailand is leading among all countries to control the coronavirus outbreak, which emerged from China in Dec 2019. It has now spread to many countries and till the date, there were no specified medicines or vaccines available for coronavirus. However, a Chinese woman who was infected with this virus has shown remarkable improvement after being treated with a cocktail anti-virals that were used against flu and HIV individually. Thailand’s health ministry has announced this unique blend of anti-virals to be effective in treating coronavirus.

This patient is 71 years old who was continuously tested for coronavirus throughout her trial treatment. Thai doctors confirm that she is now negative against coronavirus which accurately makes 48 hours after her last test. During the Thai health ministry press conference, Dr. Kriengsak Attipornwanich shared that;

“The lab result of positive on the coronavirus turned negative in 48 hours. From being exhausted before, she could sit up in bed 12 hours later.”

To treat this woman infected with coronavirus, Thai doctors used a combination made with an anti-flu drug called “oseltamivir”, “lopinavir” and “ritonavir” which are the anti-virals usually used in HIV treatment.

Dr. Kriengsak further said that the Thai Health Ministry was waiting for the results to reach a meaningful end.

These new claims have been made regarding the deadly coronavirus which is being reported even outside China. The death toll of the coronavirus outbreak has crossed 300 people in China alone and thousands of others are infected.

The Philippines has reported one death, Thailand has reported 19 confirmed cases but no death within its territory. All of these people are believed to have links with Wuhan, a central city of China which is currently under the worst disease outbreak and suffering from a complete lockdown.

The highest number of affected people outside China are reported in its close neighbor, Japan, which is now exceeded by 20 cases.

Among all coronavirus patients in Thailand, 8 have recovered and discharged whereas 11 are still at the hospital, under isolated treatment.

Thailand’s health minister, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul released a video on Sunday, featuring a coronavirus patient from Wuhan who has now recovered from the deadly infection and could be seen talking to his family and thanking media and medical staff.

Thai authorities are regulating Chinese as well as all international visitors in Thailand. However, it is not an easy thing to do since Thailand majorly depends upon its tourism industry to meet the economic needs.

The support message shared by the Thai health ministry translates as;

“Our hearts to Wuhan” in English.

This slogan has could be seen at multiple popular public places that are typically crowded with tourists.

There are so many confirmed cases of people from China who were visiting Thailand but Thai health officials have only reported one case of human-to-human transmission of coronavirus. This case subjected a Thai taxi driver who became a victim of the deadly coronavirus outbreak despite never been to China. So it is a high possibility that he has got this infection from any of the tourists.

The Thai government is under huge criticism by the public over the slow evacuation plans of its citizens from China. However, it is putting all it efforts to complete the execution and provide them with the best medical facilities.
